Trophy Rainbow Trout on Alaska's Kenai River

The Kenai River is renowned not only for its world-famous salmon runs but also for hosting one of the largest populations of Rainbow trout in the state. Our Rainbow trout season on the Kenai River begins June 11 and runs through October. We primarily pursue trout using single hand fly rods from the boat, which allows us to cover more water efficiently. Depending on the time of year and water conditions, the Kenai River also offers excellent opportunities for swinging a fly with a Spey Rod.

Not a fly fisherman? No problem! A guided trip on the Kenai River is a fantastic way to learn a new skill, and most anglers quickly grasp the techniques we use with a little instruction. Additionally, we offer specialized spinning float rods that provide similar effectiveness to a fly rod, but with conventional gear.

Thanks to the abundant salmon runs and a nearly year-round calorie-dense food source, the Kenai River consistently produces large fish in the high 20s to 30-inch class that can rival any river system in Alaska. Our wild trout population in the Kenai River is migratory and seasonally utilizes every section of the river system, including the massive glacial-fed Skilak and Kenai lakes, depending on the time of year and the available food source.
