Salmon processing

After your guide has filleted your catch, our onsite processor can weigh, vacuum pack, and freeze your salmon in high-quality commercial-grade bags, ensuring it’s frozen and ready for pick up the next day. We can store your fish for up to 48 hours after your trip. This convenient service is available to our guests at a flat rate of $2.50/lb, helping you save both time and money.

Save a trip to the processor and avoid standing in lines!

* If you plan to continue your journey to other parts of the state, make sure you have arrangements for storing your frozen fish upon arrival. Some larger local facilities can be contacted in advance to arrange for frozen storage, but keep in mind that they often lack extra space during peak season.

Average weight of filets per fish:

- Sockeye: 4-6 lbs

- Silver Salmon: 4-8 lbs

- King Salmon: 6-15 lb average, varies considerably per fish

Vac pac/freezing: $2.50/lb

Once your salmon is packed and frozen, you have a few options for transporting it home.

The most economical way is to bring it as checked luggage on your flight home, using an airline-approved container. We recommend insulated fish boxes or a sturdy plastic cooler (avoid styrofoam as they break easily). Both options will keep your frozen fish intact until you reach home. Even with airline baggage fees, this option is much cheaper than shipping from Alaska.

* Be sure to check your airline's website for approved containers and baggage fees in advance.

Alternatively, you can choose to ship your fish overnight or next day air to your home. While this can be expensive due to shipping costs from Alaska, it's a great option if you can't travel with your fish. FedEx and UPS have shipping locations nearby.

If you decide not to use our in-house processing service or if you want specialty processing such as canning, smoking, or Lox, there are several local processors that can provide these services and also arrange shipping.
