A happy family with a limit of Kenai River Sockeye Salmon for the freezer.

Kenai and Kasilof River Sockeye Salmon Trips

Kenai and Kasilof River Sockeye Salmon

Sockeye (Red) Salmon pour into the Kenai River and Kasilof each summer beginning in mid June and running through mid August, with the peak of the run occurring between July 15 and August 10th.

2025 saw a record return of over 4 million sockeye to the Kenai River, with several anglers reaching their limit in under an hour! Sockeye are prized for their bright red meat with a firm texture, and with the increased bag limits in recent years, this is definitely the best option for filling the freezer.

Besides being excellent table fare, sockeye salmon are also one of the strongest fighting salmon pound for pound, known for long runs and going airborne several times once hooked.

We use a boat to access prime fishing spots on both the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers and then target Sockeye while standing in shallow water and intercept them in travel lanes as they make their way upstream. While sockeye are typically not aggressive biters in freshwater, they can be easily caught with special techniques and a little practice. Your guide will start the day off with instruction, and you'll be ripping lips in no time!
